Fringebiscuit was set up in 2010 as a review platform for the Edinburgh Fringe, based mainly on Twitter. Run by three multidisciplinary theatre professionals (Tom Martin, Gareth Morgan and James Fritz), Fringebiscuit’s initial aim was to get audiences engaged with easily digestible critical writing – but we soon realised we could do something more.

Outside of Fringebiscuit, we have helped in the development of countless young people in Nottingham, Bristol and London through our work in theatres, youth clubs, and schools both primary and secondary; in 2012 we decided to combine our youth practices with our passion for arts writing – hence Fringebiscuit’s Young Writers Training Scheme!

Fringebiscuit is now a social enterprise dedicated to providing innovative training in and widening access to the field of arts writing, primarily at the Edinburgh Fringe. We believe that culture is only as good as the conversations it provokes, and the more generous, the more capable, and the more diverse our writers are, the better those conversations will be.

Aims for 2012:

• Design and deliver the Young Writers Training Scheme: Year One.
• Investigate new ways of covering the Fringe digitally.
• Promote better thinking, as well as better writing.
• Broker relationships between writers both early career and established.
• Meet people who are interested in supporting this kind of initiative.
